Questions
Questions patients ask
Do I need a referral to see Dr. Hunter?+
No, a referral is not required. Many patients are referred to Dr. Hunter by another physician, since hand, wrist and elbow problems are often first noticed by a primary care doctor or a different specialist. You are also welcome to call our Columbia, TN office directly to schedule a visit.
What conditions does Dr. Hunter treat?+
Dr. Hunter treats conditions of the hand, wrist and elbow, including trigger finger, carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, fractures and tendon injuries. Your first visit will include an exam and a conversation about your symptoms to help determine the right next step.
Will I need surgery for trigger finger?+
Most people don't, at least not right away. Treatment usually starts with rest, splinting or an injection. When those options don't resolve the problem, Dr. Hunter performs an in-office, sutureless trigger digit release for appropriate candidates, a procedure done without the need for a traditional operating room visit.
Is surgery the only treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome?+
No. Many patients improve with a wrist splint, activity changes or an injection before surgery is ever discussed. Dr. Hunter will walk you through which option fits your symptoms and how long you have had them.
Does Dr. Hunter treat elbow problems too?+
Yes. Hand, wrist and elbow care is Dr. Hunter's focus, and elbow concerns such as arthritis, tendon injuries and fractures are part of his everyday practice.
Will my insurance cover my visit or procedure?+
That depends on your specific plan. Our office verifies coverage and explains your benefits before any procedure, so you know what to expect. Call our office with your insurance information and we will confirm the details for you.
Is Dr. Hunter accepting new patients?+
Yes, Dr. Hunter is accepting new patients. Call our Columbia, TN office to schedule a first visit.
Where did Dr. Hunter train?+
Dr. Hunter completed medical school at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and residency training in orthopaedic surgery at Campbell Clinic. He is affiliated with Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance. This page is for general education and does not replace an evaluation by Dr. Hunter or another qualified physician. Always talk with your own doctor about your symptoms and treatment options.
